The S tronic dual-clutch transmission is reliable if well maintained. However, DSGs (which the S Tronic is) are very expensive to fix if they go wrong. We haven't had any reports of reliability issues of this auto gearbox in a Q2, but we have had reports of DSG issues in the part. The DQ200 DSG gearbox traditionally has been problematic. VW Group are dropping DQ200's soon with 1.0 & 1.5 TSI's unless with Mild Hybrid. Before they do Skoda are bringing out the Fabia Mk4 1.5 TSI with a DQ200 DSG. DSG can break like a manual gearbox can. The only difference is the repair will be more costly than the manual. Be prepared to pay if the worst happens.
The oil is for entire gearbox, mechatronics and clutches and it’s not ATF (ATF automatic transmission fluid is for automatic gearboxes, NOT for DSG direct shift gearboxes). It is necessary to replace it every 120000km. I strongly suggest using original VW/Skoda part when replacing and at a Skoda workshop.
